ALL I KNOW IS THE WAY YOU MOVED YOUR HAND
Sarajevo, Bosnia
Febr. 1998

In a pile of debris, next to a completely burned out apartment building, I found fragments of letters and other handwritten papers. Coming from Holland, I cannot read them of course, so the only thing I could find out about the people who used to live there, was the way they moved their hands on the paper. letter
I made copies of some of those letters and enlarged some characters on transparent sheets, to complete the sentence:

“ALL I KNOW IS THE WAY YOU MOVED YOUR HAND “

It was my personal way to remember the people who were "forced to go".

But at the same time, I wanted to show my wish for the future, represented by drawings from children from the local primary school.
Through the transparent characters you can see the colorful drawings of the most beautiful apartments the children could imagine. On the backside of each piece, they drew happy faces.

The work was hanging in an open space at ground level of the building, easy to see from outside and for those who are living in the apartments around.
